PROTOTYPE Design bags by Burri design.

Chinese design pattern

This is a typical indigo dye cotton popular in the 1950's and 60's in the rural areas of China. Cotton was first used for textiles in the 12th century in the Lower Yangtze valley. By the 16th century much of the population was wearing cotton clothing. Compared to the production of silk, cotton was far easier and cheaper to make.

Because indigo dyed cotton was the standard "fashion" of the rural classes, Mao Zedong chose it to be the standard outfit for the masses. The stencils and decorative elements were used for quilts, festive wear and children's clothing. There are many variations of stencils ranging from birds and butterflies to all sorts of flower patterns.
